Stegner, the daughter of the Central European sales manager for a large American company and an accountant, was raised in an animal-loving household with many dogs alongside her older sister, who currently works in film production. For seven years she was a child model, appearing in commercials and children’s catalogs, and for nine years was trained in dance.

In high school she discovered a passion for playing basketball, and eventually she joined a club team in Munich. Being 180 cm tall, she was naturally fit for the sport; her classmates even called her “Beanpole” because of her towering height.

Shortly before her 15th birthday, while celebrating Oktoberfest in her hometown, she was discovered by a talent scout who recognized her potential as a model. Tilla Lindig, a Munich and London based couture label, first booked her. Although planning to study accounting when she left high school, Stegner moved to Paris to pursue modeling afterwards instead.

As of late 2007, she is a Victoria’s Secret Angel, and graced the cover of the 2008 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue to record-setting numbers, accomplishments that have led to her being dubbed the “return of the great American supermodel.”

She is also known for contracts with companies like Harley-Davidson and for ranking #1 on Maxim magazine’s 2008 “Hot 100″ list. Aside from modeling, she is an ambassador for the American Cancer Society.

Ambrósio, described by Tyra Banks as “The future of the modeling world”, is best known for her work with Victoria’s Secret and was chosen as their first spokesmodel for Victoria’s Secret PINK line. Ambrósio is currently one of Victoria’s Secret Angels and the former face for the UK company Next.

Aside from modeling work, Ambrósio represents as the National Ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Ambrosio was also selected by AskMen.com as Number 2 out of the “Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2008″.
